Contact point for urban logistics

The Urban Logistics Contact Centre at the Logistics Initiative serves as a central point of contact for all topics relating to urban logistics and actively networks the relevant companies and institutions in Hamburg and beyond.

Active exchange of information

A key task of the contact point is to promote the sustainable exchange of information between the stakeholders involved and to establish an active feedback culture. In addition, existing challenges are to be addressed and, building on this, solutions are to be jointly developed and discussed. A central element of implementation is the Urban Delivery Traffic Expert Group established by the contact point in cooperation with the Ministry of Economics and Innovation (BWI), which has been well received by companies and institutions alike.

Expertise in urban logistics

The staff at the contact point use their expertise to advise interested companies and institutions from Hamburg and the Hamburg metropolitan region as required. This includes identifying and networking with relevant players from the various sectors as well as providing basic information on current framework conditions, concepts and developments in urban logistics. In this function, the employees of the contact point also fulfil the role of development path experts for city and port logistics as part of the Digital Mobility (SDM) strategy of the Ministry of Transport and Mobility Transition (BVM).

Hamburg as a pioneer of urban logistics

Furthermore, the employees of the contact point support the positioning of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (FHH) as an international pioneer in the field of urban logistics. In this function, lectures and presentations are regularly organised that reach a national and international audience. In this context, the various innovative projects in the field of urban logistics in which the FHH is involved are publicised. In addition, the contact point initiates and supports the exchange with and between the various stakeholders of the relevant FHH projects. Currently, this primarily concerns the EU projects DECARBOMILE, InnoWaTrand MoLoHubs, in which the logistics initiative is directly involved, as well as theMOVE21 project, in which the logistics initiative acts as an associated partner.

Hamburg's strategy for the last mile

The activities of the contact point are an important building block for achieving the Hamburg Senate's goals for last mile logistics, as defined in the ‘Urban Logistics Hamburg - Strategy for the Last Mile’ published in October 2021. The overarching goal of this strategy is to reduce CO2 emissions by 40 % by 2030 compared to 2017, combined with a significant reduction in traffic congestion. As key measures, the proportion of alternative means of transport (e.g. cargo bikes) is therefore to be increased to 25% and the proportion of CEP shipments in the B2C sector that are picked up at pick-up points (e.g. parcel stations) is to be increased to 30%. In addition, a maximum of 45% of CEP deliveries on the last mile should still be made by car in 2030, of which at least 95% should be emission-free.
